Why these three bladders
A bladder lets you drink without stopping. It also hides how much water you have left, freezes in the hose, and is harder to clean than a bottle. Most of a PCT class still carries bottles. If you want a hose anyway, these three are the ones worth buying.
HydraPak Contour 3L is first: about 5.4 ounces with the tube, a slide-seal top, independent tests still put it on top. Osprey Hydraulics 3L is the Premium Pick — the reservoir that ships in hiking packs, with a handle you can fill at a trough. Platypus Hoser 3L is Best Value: the lightest hose system on this list, a lower price, no extra hardware.

HydraPak Contour 3L
What it is
3 L reservoir with zip/slide top, quick-connect hose, bite valve + shutoff. OGL measured 5.4 oz bladder+tube; list ~$49. Card matches 5.4 oz · $49. Top-rack dishwasher callout in OGL.
OGL best hydration bladder roundup — Contour as lightweight + easy-to-clean pick
Card sources — OGL · CleverHiker · REI Expert Advice
Where it fits
Hikers who want a hose in-pack and will clean the bladder. Lighter than Osprey Hydraulics; more features than Hoser. Thinner film — OGL says baby it. Thru classes often prefer bottles; bladder is still the day-hike / hose crowd.

Osprey Hydraulics 3L
What it is
3 L pack reservoir with handle that holds the mouth open, hose disconnect, co-op spares. Card: 8.3 oz · $52. OGL treats Osprey Hydraulics as easier to fill one-handed than Contour; heavier.
OutdoorGearLab — Hydraulics in bladder roundup (fill handle; ~8.75 oz class measured on tested unit)
CleverHiker / REI — Hydraulics as pack-included / replacement bladder
Card — 8.3 oz · $52 · fill handle
Where it fits
Loaded multi-day packs where refilling a slide-top Contour is annoying. Heavier than Contour and Hoser. Natural swap if the pack already has Hydraulics hardware.
Premium Pick co-op bladder: handle fill, disconnect hose, retail spares — the featured reservoir against Contour ounces and Hoser minimalism.
