Why these three tarps
A tarp is a roof. It is not a tent. You still need a bivy or a bug net, and you need a pitch you can do tired. About six percent of the 2025 PCT class slept this way.
Hyperlite Flat Tarp 8×10 is first: Dyneema, enough tie-outs to pitch in weather. Zpacks 8.5×10 is the Premium Pick — the same job in fewer ounces. Gossamer Gear Twinn is Best Value: silnylon, a catenary cut, a price you can replace in town.

Hyperlite Mountain Gear Flat Tarp 8×10
What it is
DCF flat rectangle tarp with dense perimeter tie-outs / line-locs and configurable pitches. Adventure Alan lists ~10.9 oz with guylines and ~$395–420; OGL tests the HMG Flat Tarp as a flagship UL tarp.
Thru and UL hikers who want a full-size Dyneema workhorse pitch (A-frame and beyond) and will learn tarp skill. No floor/bugs included — pair with groundsheet/bivy as needed.
