Why these three hiking pants
These three are named in independent hiking-pants tests we read: OutdoorGearLab’s 2026 best hiking pants, CleverHiker’s men’s roundup, Treeline Review’s women’s roundup, and GearJunkie’s men’s roundup. The Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s what-to-carry page says to pack long pants outside high summer. It does not name a model.
Outdoor Research Ferrosi is the stretch pair those tests keep naming. REI Co-op Trailmade here is the hiking pant (REI 236137 / 235802), not the Trailmade rain pant. Patagonia Quandary is the Patagonia pair Treeline lists for women. Halle is a separate prAna pant, not the women’s Quandary.

OutdoorGearLab — Ferrosi Best men’s hiking pants (breathability/mobility)
CleverHiker — Ferrosi men’s review / Best Hiking Pants Overall class (4.8/5 notes)

Where it fits
Three-season hiking pant for mobility and airflow. Softshell stretch, not waterproof. Independent tests praise breathability; durability can trail burly nylon pants in brush.

CleverHiker — light rain/wind shed; not a storm shell
Better Trail — stretch/breathability vs Quandary durability trade
Why it's on the top three

Named tests — OGL best hiking pants · CleverHiker Ferrosi
Survey class — HA PCT does not break out hiking pants as a top column
Maker — Outdoor Research Ferrosi

Better Trail — Quandary vs Ferrosi (less stretch, more durable structure)
Where it fits
Town-to-trail nylon pant with less spandex stretch than Ferrosi. Holds shape longer; less softshell mobility. Men’s Quandary SKU — do not confuse with prAna Halle.
Better Trail — durability/structure vs Ferrosi stretch
CleverHiker pant guides — Quandary in premium/classic nylon class
Maker — recycled nylon Quandary line
Why it's on the top three
Premium Pick on the men’s hiking-pants three: Patagonia nylon pant named across CleverHiker/Treeline/GearJunkie when Ferrosi is the stretch softshell.
