A repair kit is a few items you have used, not a hardware drawer. Most trail fixes are tape, thread, and patience.
- Tenacious Tape or similar. Pinholes, a pad nick, a jacket tear. Round the patch. Clean the fabric. Press it warm if you can.
- Needle, thread, a few safety pins. A blown stitch on a hipbelt or a quilt baffle. You do not need a sewing machine. You need one repair that holds to town.
- Guyline and a spare buckle. A snapped webbing end can wait for town if you can still close the pack. A spare side-release buckle weighs nothing and saves a carry.
- Stove and filter. O-rings, a cleaning needle, the filter syringe. Know how to clear a jet and a hollow fiber before you need to.
- When to stop repairing. A pad that will not hold, a shoe with a separated midsole. Replace. The repair kit is not a personality.
Gear that earns its place after the miles is the only gear that belongs in a pack. That is the whole site.
